me when someone tells me I’m being heterophobic

Or racist against white people

or sexist against men

The problem is that white people see racism as conscious hate, when racism is bigger than that. Racism is a complex system of social and political levers and pulleys set up generations ago to continue working on the behalf of whites at other people’s expense, whether whites know/like it or not. Racism is an insidious cultural disease. It is so insidious that it doesn’t care if you are a white person who likes black people; it’s still going to find a way to infect how you deal with people who don’t look like you. Yes, racism looks like hate, but hate is just one manifestation. Privilege is another. Access is another. Ignorance is another. Apathy is another. And so on. So while I agree with people who say no one is born racist, it remains a powerful system that we’re immediately born into. It’s like being born into air: you take it in as soon as you breathe. It’s not a cold that you can get over. There is no anti-racist certification class. It’s a set of socioeconomic traps and cultural values that are fired up every time we interact with the world. It is a thing you have to keep scooping out of the boat of your life to keep from drowning in it. I know it’s hard work, but it’s the price you pay for owning everything. —Scott Wood (X)

hey guys I’ve got some ideas:

  • instead of donning fat suits for a day, LISTEN TO AND BELIEVE FAT PEOPLE WHO DESCRIBE THEIR EXPERIENCES
  • instead of pretending to be a woman on a dating site, LISTEN TO AND BELIEVE WOMEN WHO DESCRIBE THEIR EXPERIENCES
  • instead of wearing a hijab for a day, LISTEN TO AND BELIEVE MUSLIM WOMEN WHO DESCRIBE THEIR EXPERIENCES
  • instead of trying on being part of an oppressed group like it’s a costume, DON’T

It really fucking pisses me off when men assume that even though some women are gay, that they have to somehow also have a man/masculinity involved in the relationship somewhere. Like saying, “I know you are a lesbian, which totally makes me mad because I can’t fuck you or your partner, but just so I can visualize it, which one of you pretends to be me?” It’s sick. Go away.

Hey. Don’t just scroll past. Come back and watch this. You need it more than you know.

holy shit.

the time out of your day to watch this will not be wasted, I assure you.

By about the 2:00 I was sobbing.

I scrolled halfway past and then thought “okay i’ll see what it’s about”

Definitely the correct choice. Watch it.

They. Were. Wrong.

oh god the actual tears on my face

my english teacher showed us this in class the other day. When it was over, I looked around to see reactions. Half the class had these awkward, slightly uncomfortable grins, and half were staring frozen at the screen. You could really tell who this affected.

Oh my… You ALL need to watch this. Very little affects me the way this video did: literally shivers and tears. Please give this a watch.

It’s back!

This is one of the most powerful pieces of poetry I have ever come across, if you do one thing today, it should be watching this.

Reading this now.  My therapist recommended it & it is a very helpful, quick read.  It helps with those of us who have issues with parental guilt & manipulation.  It’s purpose is to help you regain your self worth & develop new ways to interact.

One of the best books I’ve ever read. It literally changed my life.

Anyone who thinks they may have been abused in any way by a parent or caregiver should read this book.

please share.

I wish there were a way to download this book. I want it, but I don’t want my parents to find it. :/

Fixed odinsblog’s comment.

Holy shit. I reblogged that shooting star gif last night. You know, the one with everyone saying it would make your wish come true. I did it as a joke but I made a wish anyways because why not.

Well, It came true today. I’m not even fucking kidding. IT CAME TRUE.

I wished my husband would get a job offer back home (we live five hours away from our family) and he woke up to an email this morning with a job offer. He’s been trying for the past two years to find a job where we can move home.

Please, keep your fingers crossed this job pays enough and has the right benefits so he can take it. We REALLY want to move back home.

I’m almost in tears about it.

The backlog of rape kits has put justice on hold for a lot of people. Back in 2009, more than 11,000 untested kits were found in a Detroit Police Department storage facility. Some were more than 25 years old.

Mariska Hargitay speaks on some of the issues surrounding the rape kit backlog in Detroit, Michigan. #endthebacklog (x)

It costs between $1,000 – $1,500 to test every single rape kit. There are over 10,000 kits left in Detroit’s rape kit backlog. Your donation can go directly to testing them. Donate to the Detroit Crime Commission’s backlog initiative by clicking here.

I am pretty explicitly anti-police in every respect. But I support Wayne County prosecutor Kym Worthy and her push to catalogue the egregious backlog of unprocessed rape kits in Detroit.

Her work has already identified countless serial rapists in southeast Michigan, and will continue to identify these rapist pieces of shit as she moves forward.

Who cares if this process leads to conviction or not. Just give us the list. We can take care of the rest.

"After Detroit tested the first 10% of its backlogged kits, authorities were able to link cases to 46 serial rapists." (x)

Just think about it: 46 serial rapists. And the evidence against them was out there, all the time, in those backlogged kits. And that’s just 10% of them
